The Hazardous Waste Specialist is responsible for the expert evaluation, classification, and safe consolidation of chemical waste materials. This role ensures compliance with all state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations while supporting facility operations with specialized testing, packaging, spill response, labeling, loading/unloading, transportation coordination, and detailed material sampling and profiling.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform sampling and profiling of waste streams following established policies and procedures.
- Safely open, unpack, consolidate, and handle containers of hazardous materials, ensuring accurate classification and documentation.
- Conduct testing of materials, manage spill clean-up response, and execute remedial activities as required.
- Accurately label, load, and unload hazardous materials, leveraging logistics expertise to maintain compliance and efficiency.
- Operate equipment such as drum dollies and forklifts to facilitate safe and timely transfer of hazardous waste materials at facility sites.
- Strictly adhere to and promote compliance with company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and company-specific regulations and standards.
- Operate, inspect, and maintain all facility equipment, ensuring optimal performance and workplace safety.
- Assist with additional duties as assigned, contributing to a culture of operational excellence.
Qualifications:
Education / Experience:
- High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related science discipline preferred.
