Job summary

R+L Carriers in Chicago, IL is seeking a Safety Hazmat Technician to join our service center team. The role focuses on emergency response, hazardous and non-hazardous material cleanup, site remediation, and decontamination, reporting to the Director of Safety.

This on-site position requires a 40-hour HAZWOPER certification, strict PPE usage, strong teamwork, and the ability to lift up to 75 lbs. You will lead safety initiatives, train staff, and ensure compliance with R+L procedures while

Qualifications

• 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification required.
• Follow PPE protocols per OSHA standards.
• Communicate effectively with team and other departments.
• Update management on issues promptly.
• Maintain daily job notes.
• Lift up to 75 lbs and stay physically fit.
• Thrive in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
• Lead safety in emergency response per procedures.
• Operate tools related to emergency response activities.
• Set up and participate in live training events.
• Audit hazmat shipments for compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform emergency response tasks and cleanup of hazardous/non-hazardous materials.
• Remediate sites, decontaminate equipment, and manage waste containerization.
• Lead safety in emergency response following R+L procedures and safety docs.
• Audit incoming/outgoing hazmat shipments for compliance.
• Set up and participate in live training events to ensure competency.
• Maintain daily notes and communicate issues to management.
