Job summary

College of DuPage is seeking a Coordinator, Hazardous Material to oversee safe chemical handling, storage, and disposal across all departments. You will interpret federal, state and local regulations, advise staff, and develop college policies for programs that utilize hazardous materials.

The role requires a Bachelor's in chemistry or related field and certification in hazardous materials management or first response, with at least one year of EH&S experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in chemistry or a related field required.
  • Certification for Hazardous Materials Emergency First Response or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager required.
  • One year in environmental health and safety issues required.
  • Laboratory or hazardous chemical safety experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe and legal acquisition, use, storage and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials for all departments.
  • Advise on compliance with federal, state and local laws regulating chemical use and waste.
  • Develop and review college policies for programs using chemicals or hazardous materials.
  • Provide staff training on regulations and safety operations as requested.
  • Inspect laboratories and storage areas; audit operations and improve safety practices.
  • Advise employees and students on compliance affecting courses, purchases and on-site treatment.
