Job summary

The Judge Group in Davenport, IA is seeking a Hazardous Materials Coordinator to oversee the DG/HM transportation compliance program and support shipping/receiving operations. Qualifications

  • Must hold current 49 CFR Hazardous Materials Certification.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in hazmat transportation, environmental compliance, logistics, or related field.
  • Knowledge of DOT HM Regulations (49 CFR) and related shipping documentation requirements.
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs for hazardous materials compliance.
  • Strong documentation, record-keeping, and regulatory auditing capabilities.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate with Environmental, Safety, Security, Materials, and Logistics groups.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the site SME for hazardous materials transportation compliance.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with DOT 49 CFR hazardous materials regulations.
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver hazmat training programs; keep training records up to date.
  • Review shipments for proper classification, packaging, marking, labeling, and documentation.
  • Support shipping, receiving, facility movement, and storage involving hazardous materials.
  • Conduct internal assessments and audits to identify gaps and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with multiple teams to ensure regulatory compliance across operations.
  • Support investigations and root-cause analysis for hazmat incidents or non-compliance findings.

Job Description: Hazardous Materials Coordinator

6-12 months, with the possibility of extension based on business needs and performance.

Position Summary

Client is seeking a highly motivated Hazardous Materials Coordinator to oversee and support the facility's Dangerous Goods/Hazardous Materials (DG/HM) transportation compliance program. The successful candidate will maintain compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous materials regulations, coordinate employee training programs, support hazardous materials shipping and receiving operations, and serve as a subject matter expert for hazardous material transportation requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • Current 49 CFR Hazardous Materials Certification (required).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in hazardous materials transportation, environmental compliance, logistics, shipping/receiving, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of:
    • DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR).
    • Hazard classification, marking, labeling, packaging, and shipping documentation requirements.
    • Hazardous material employee training requirements and record retention.
    • Regulatory compliance and audit preparation.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and enterprise business systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience coordinating hazardous materials programs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Certifications or experience with IMDG and IATA regulations.
  • Experience conducting compliance audits and employee training.
  • SAP experience and familiarity with shipping documentation processes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the site subject matter expert for hazardous materials transportation compliance.

  • Coordinate with Environmental, Safety, Security, Materials, and Logistics teams to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Support investigations and root-cause analysis for hazardous material incidents or non-compliance findings.
  • Maintain required hazardous material transportation program documentation and standard operating procedures.

Additional Information

The selected candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and safe handling of hazardous materials across the facility. The initial assignment is expected to last 6-12 months, with a possibility of extension based on business requirements.
