Job summary

The University of Chicago is seeking a Hazardous Waste Manager to lead the hazardous waste program across its research enterprise. You will ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials, reporting to the Associate Director of Chemical Safety and working with institutional partners to uphold compliance and best practices.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in a related field, a related degree, and experience with EPA, OSHA, DOT regulations, and RCRA.

Qualifications

• College or university degree in a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of work experience in a related discipline.
• Guides compliance activities aligned with the University's strategic plans.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain policies and procedures for hazardous materials management.
• Conduct inspections and audits of campus facilities and practices.
• Supervise the University's hazardous waste vendor and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Maintain records, waste determinations, manifests, and required reports.
• Provide emergency response support and coordinate on-call safety activities.
• Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety teams and university partners.
