Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Hardware Development Engineer for Starlink to identify, analyze, and resolve hardware failures on satellites and gateway hardware. You will work with cross-functional teams to enhance reliability and PCBAs across the Starlink network in Redmond, WA.

Responsibilities include detailed failure analysis, root-cause investigations, and collaboration with design, manufacturing, and supply chain to improve products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/computer engineering or a STEM field.
  • 1+ years in hardware development, failure analysis, or reliability engineering.
  • Master’s degree in EE or equivalent is preferred.
  • 3+ years in industry with electronic hardware experience.
  • Experience with digital and mixed-signal designs, power/RF electronics.
  • Proficiency with evaluation tools and test equipment listed above.
  • Troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of electrical hardware failures.
  • Experience with HALT/HASS, thermal, vibration, TVAC testing.
  • Programming skills in Python and C/C++ for test automation and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, RCA, and corrective action.
  • Experience with SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, RS422; SPC knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed failure analysis of satellite and gateway hardware and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and supply chain to improve reliability.
  • Use schematics, test equipment, and inspection processes for failure investigations.
  • Work with test engineers to improve test assets and feedback loops.
  • Monitor yield rates and quality metrics; drive corrective actions for non-conforming products.
  • Conduct benchtop environmental testing to validate robustness.
  • Support production and field operations with technical failure-resolution guidance.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of findings, results, and actions.
