Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and analyze failures in protective relay platforms with mixed-disciplinary teams.
  • Develop and perform hardware-focused tests of embedded systems and power electronics.
  • Communicate results to product line owners, manufacturing, and Quality via reports and meetings.
  • Build engineering prototypes and document construction and records.
  • Design and assemble test fixtures for product development.

Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a Hardware Engineering Technician working in our research and development division.

The role involves testing prototype units and boards, performing investigative troubleshooting to the component level, and working closely with mixed‑discipline engineering teams.

Responsibilities

A typical day might include the following:

  • Working with mixed‑discipline engineering teams to perform in‑depth troubleshooting, reverse engineering, and analysis of failures in protective relay platforms.
  • Performing/developing mixed‑disciplinary tests (hardware emphasis) of varying complexity based on evolving knowledge of embedded systems, power systems, electronics, and protective relay platforms.
  • Communicating results and progress to product line owners, manufacturing, and quality personnel via test reports and meetings.
  • Building engineering prototypes under electrical engineer direction.
  • Documenting prototype construction and maintaining engineering records.
  • Designing and assembling test fixtures and other components common to product development.
Qualifications

Compensation
  • Hardware Engineering TechnicianI: $32.88–$48.60 per hour.
  • Hardware Engineering TechnicianII: $35.83–$52.95 per hour.
  • Senior Engineering Technician: $40.50–$59.84 per hour.
  • Pay ranges may be adjusted based on experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
