Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify CAD drawings (system drawings, rack elevations, cabling diagrams).
  • Develop drawing packages from system docs, inputs, parts lists and vendor docs.
  • Maintain drawing standards and formats for program release.
  • Develop high-level diagrams illustrating subsystem connectivity.
  • Maintain communication and infrastructure diagrams and cable-source drawings.
  • Manage revisions and BOM updates via ECNs/ECRs.

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Hardware Engineer to support hardware engineering, system documentation, CAD development, and configuration management activities within a highly regulated, mission-critical environment. This role will support hardware design, documentation control, engineering change management, and prototyping efforts related to complex communication and infrastructure systems.

The ideal candidate will have strong AutoCAD experience, configuration management knowledge, and the ability to support engineering teams through all phases of hardware documentation and system maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities
CAD & Documentation Management
  • Create and modify complex CAD drawings, including:
    • System drawings
    • Rack elevations
    • Cabling/interconnect diagrams
    • Equipment-to-equipment connectivity diagrams
  • Develop drawing packages based on:
    • System-level documentation
    • Engineering inputs
    • Parts lists
    • Vendor documentation
  • Prepare and maintain drawing standards and formats for program release
  • Develop high-level functional diagrams illustrating subsystem connectivity
  • Maintain and update communication and infrastructure diagrams
  • Generate Cable Source drawings and related purchasing documentation
Cable Marking Specifications (CMS)
  • Develop and maintain detailed Cable Marking Specification spreadsheets, including:
    • Wire numbers
    • Part numbers
    • To/From destinations
    • Cable and connector identifiers
    • Marker label information
Engineering Change & Configuration Management
  • Manage and generate revisions to engineering drawings and documentation
  • Execute and release Bill of Material (BOM) updates
  • Support formal design and configuration management processes, including:
    • Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
    • Engineering Change Requests (ECRs)
Design & Prototyping Support
  • Assist with hardware design and prototyping efforts involving:
    • Racks
    • Workstations
    • Supporting infrastructure
  • Support product selection, verification, and hardware integration activities
Team Support
  • Provide additional technical and documentation support to engineering and maintenance teams as needed
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience
  • 1-3+ years of experience with:
    • AutoCAD
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Microsoft Word
    • Configuration management and engineering change processes (ECNs/ECRs)
    • Technical drawing tools such as Visio
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage engineering documentation in a structured environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP)
  • Experience with:
    • Bill of Materials (BOM) structuring
    • BOM management
    • Hardware documentation processes
  • Experience supporting highly regulated or mission-critical environments preferred
Schedule & Work Environment
  • Full-time position
  • Standard schedule:
    • Monday - Friday
    • 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required based on project demands
  • Primarily onsite in Gaithersburg, MD with occasional travel to operational facilities
Additional Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to work within Federal Government-related environments and programs preferred
