Job description

Job details: Salary: $180,000 - $230,000 per year.

A bit about us

We are partnering with a rapidly growing robotics company building autonomous systems for heavy machinery and demanding industrial environments. Their technology brings together embedded software, robotics, advanced hardware and mission-critical infrastructure to automate work traditionally performed through manual and high-risk operations. The company is developing its next-generation hardware platform and is looking for an experienced firmware engineer to help build the foundation connecting onboard computing, sensors, control systems and real-world machine actuation.

Why join us

  • Build firmware that directly controls autonomous heavy machinery

  • Take ownership of a next-generation embedded hardware platform

  • Work across firmware, electrical engineering, robotics, autonomy and field operations

  • Solve complex real-time and safety-critical engineering problems

  • Own systems from initial hardware bring-up through production deployment

  • Help shape firmware architecture, standards and engineering practices

  • See your work operate on real equipment- not just behave nicely inside a laboratory

  • Competitive compensation, equity, medical, dental and vision coverage

  • 401(k), life insurance and opportunities to visit customer jobsites

Job Details

We are seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to design and build the embedded systems powering autonomous machines and fleet operations.

What You Will Do

  • Design and implement firmware for a next-generation embedded hardware platform

  • Develop low-level drivers, hardware abstraction layers and system services

  • Build interfaces for sensors, actuators, ECUs and other machine components

  • Work with CAN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART and other communication protocols

  • Develop deterministic real-time and near-real-time control paths

  • Write clean, efficient and testable embedded C++ code

  • Implement watchdogs, error handling and fail-safe behavior

  • Design firmware that remains reliable through hardware faults, communication loss and environmental variability

  • Build logging, tracing, telemetry and embedded diagnostic capabilities

  • Lead firmware bring-up for new boards, daughterboards and related hardware

  • Partner with electrical and mechanical engineers to validate designs and interfaces

  • Diagnose difficult issues spanning firmware, hardware and system integration

  • Perform root-cause analysis on failures found during testing or field deployment

  • Optimize timing, memory consumption and CPU utilization

  • Support hardware-in-the-loop testing, regression testing and field validation

  • Improve firmware CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks and development workflows
