Job summary

Responsive, a leading SaaS provider, seeks a hands-on Senior Engineering Manager to steer multiple teams and own the technical outcomes of major product areas such as RFP management and AI modules.

You will allocate ~30% time to architecture, design reviews, prototyping, and critical-path work while guiding managers, tech leads, and engineers to deliver reliable, scalable SaaS solutions.

Qualifications

• 14+ years of software development experience, with 5+ years in engineering leadership, including managing managers or multiple teams.
• Hands-on technical leadership with significant ongoing coding contributions.
• Experience building and shipping AI agents or AI-driven systems in production.
• Experience owning and operating high-scale, multi-tenant SaaS platforms.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for your product area across Java, React, and MongoDB, including architecture and design decisions crossing team boundaries.
• Spend about 30% of time on architecture, design and code reviews, prototyping, and implementation, including critical-path work.
• Lead engineering managers, tech leads, and engineers; set expectations, run performance reviews, and develop future leaders.
• Own hiring for your teams end to end; assess fit during probation, write 90-day report, and make exit decisions when needed.
• Guide the design and delivery of AI agents and LLM-powered capabilities, including RAG pipelines and tool calling.
• Deliver on roadmap commitments with high quality; work with QA on test automation and release readiness.
• Set standards for monitoring, logging, tracing; own incident response and cost optimization for multi-tenant SaaS.
• Ensure security, tenant isolation, and data handling in all designs; collaborate on AI governance.
• Collaborate with product, design, support, customer success, and solutions teams to translate customer needs into engineering plans.
