Sarah Smith Fund is seeking an accomplished mechanical engineer to design and build the hardware for teleoperated humanoid robots. You will own major subsystems, set architecture, and drive from napkin sketch to a working robot in days, collaborating with controls and software teams.

You'll prototype with in-house machining and 3D printing, while partnering with vendors for manufacturing. Mentoring junior engineers and shaping the hardware culture are also key parts of the role.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical, Aerospace, Robotics or related field.
• 3+ years designing and shipping complex electromechanical hardware at a hardtech company.
• Strong CAD skills with a portfolio of parts and assemblies that were built.
• Deep knowledge of mechanisms, materials, fasteners, bearings and power transmission.
• Design for manufacturing, tolerancing and GD&T.
• Hands-on machining and fabrication: run a mill/lathe/CNC yourself.
• Track record of owning hardware end to end from concept to working system.
• Bias for action and fast decision making with incomplete information.

Aufgaben

• Own mechanical design of major robot subsystems from concept through production.
• Set mechanical architecture and tradeoffs between weight, stiffness, cost, packaging and manufacturability.
• Design and integrate actuators, transmissions and drivetrains for high torque density and low backlash.
• Rapidly prototype using in-house machining, 3D printing and fabrication; be on the mill late.
• Design parts for CNC, sheet metal, casting, injection molding and work with vendors.
• Run first-principles analysis to guide quick design decisions.
• Build test rigs and fixtures, then iterate and harden hardware based on results.
• Collaborate with controls and electrical on sensor integration, cable routing, thermal management and URDF accuracy.
• Help build the hardware team and mentor junior engineers and interns.
