Job summary

Daimler Truck North America’s Byesville-based internship program offers hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering, focusing on tooling design, layout optimization, and process improvements. You will work with cross-functional teams to solve production challenges and support Lean initiatives.

As a co-op student or recent graduate, you’ll gain exposure to plant layouts, equipment verification, and documentation while developing a strong foundation in fuel system products and manufacturing

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program or higher or recently graduated within 1 year of the position start date.
  • Must be part of a Co-Op Internship program through your current college/university.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Controls Engineering, or similar discipline.
  • Ability to read and create electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD and NX.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication, and assembly operations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a hands-on manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and design tooling, fixtures, and workstations to support manufacturing needs and process improvements.
  • Conduct industrial engineering activities, including time studies, plant layouts, ergonomic assessments, and workstation development.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, vendors, and leadership on product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and process enhancements.
  • Apply problem-solving techniques to analyze production issues and develop practical solutions for implementation.
  • Support engineering activities related to plant layouts, equipment verification, precision machining, and gauging.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, including routings, bills of materials (BOMs), and work instructions.
  • Perform Gage R&R studies, machine qualifications, and statistical analysis to support quality and process performance.
  • Develop a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and fuel system products through hands-on collaboration with production teams.
  • Support innovation, machine design, fabrication, and continuous improvement initiatives through participation in Lean activities, workshops, and process enhancement projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve plant objectives while promoting a strong culture of safety, operational excellence, and innovative problem-solving.
  • Lead and support efforts to foster an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture where everyone belongs
