Job summary

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern to support plant operations in Byesville, OH. You will assist with tooling, fixture and workstation design, plus manufacturing engineering projects that improve safety, quality and productivity.

You will gain hands‑on experience in process documentation, lean initiatives, and collaboration across engineering and production teams while developing a deep understanding of fuel system products.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program or higher or recently graduated within 1 year of the position start date.
  • Must be part of a Co‑Op Internship program through your current college/university.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Controls Engineering, or similar discipline.
  • Ability to read and create electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD and NX.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication, and assembly operations.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a hands‑on manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and design tooling, fixtures, and workstations to support manufacturing needs and process improvements.
  • Conduct industrial engineering activities, including time studies, plant layouts, ergonomic assessments, and workstation development.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, vendors, and leadership on product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and process enhancements.
  • Apply problem‑solving techniques to analyze production issues and develop practical solutions for implementation.
  • Support engineering activities related to plant layouts, equipment verification, precision machining, and gauging.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, including routings, bills of materials (BOMs), and work instructions.
  • Perform Gage R&R studies, machine qualifications, and statistical analysis to support quality and process performance.
  • Develop a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and fuel system products through hands‑on collaboration with production teams.
  • Support innovation, machine design, fabrication, and continuous improvement initiatives through participation in Lean activities, workshops, and process enhancement projects.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to achieve plant objectives while promoting a strong culture of safety, operational excellence, and innovative problem‑solving.
  • Lead and support efforts to foster an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture where everyone belongs

We are looking for high performing and motivated individuals in various areas within DTNA organizations.

Interns in this role may have the opportunity to transition into a full-time position subject to manager evaluations and business availability.

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will support plant operations by assisting with process improvements, tooling and fixture design, and manufacturing engineering projects that enhance safety, quality, and productivity. This hands‑on role works closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to solve production challenges, support Lean initiatives, and help develop efficient manufacturing processes. Interns will gain exposure to machine design and fabrication, industrial engineering studies, plant layouts, workstation design, process documentation, statistical analysis, and equipment validation activities. The position offers valuable experience in a manufacturing environment, providing opportunities to collaborate across departments, participate in continuous improvement efforts, and develop a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and fuel system products.
