Job summary

Rackspace is seeking a detail-oriented Network Engineer II to perform hands-on rack-and-stack of data-center networking gear. You will install, test, and label cabling, verify fiber/link integrity, and support 24x7 operations in a live data center environment.

Responsibilities include handling ticketing workflows, coordinating with operations teams, and recording accurate asset and rack information. On-call rotation and nights/weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Bare minimum education: high school diploma or regional equivalent.
• Experience in data centers, cabling, and basic network connectivity is preferred.
• Basic understanding of OSI model and Layer 1/2 concepts required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and prioritize an internal ticketing system for network requests and incidents.
• Perform physical installation (rack and stack) of network hardware per design docs.
• Mount devices in cabinets, complete cabling to support maintenance requests.
• Install and test fiber and copper cabling, terminate to EIA/TIA standards.
• Dress, label cabling, and verify fiber light levels and connector cleanliness.
• Install, test SFP/SFP+/QSFP transceivers and verify link status.
• Troubleshoot connectivity issues at the physical layer and escalate when needed.
• Execute change tasks on network devices under guidance of senior engineers.
• Document all physical infrastructure work in ticketing and asset systems.
• Maintain rack elevations, port maps, and cable/asset inventories.
• Support hardware lifecycle tasks: staging, burn-in, decommissioning, disposal.
• Respond to outages with on-site verification and dispatch as needed.
