Job summary

The Durham Marriott City Center in Durham, NC is seeking a hands-on Chief Maintenance Engineer to own the hotel's maintenance, repairs, and building systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operations for guests and associates.

You will lead a small engineering team, handle daily repairs and preventive maintenance, manage work orders and budgets, and collaborate with other departments to deliver a safe, comfortable guest experience while upholding Marriott standards.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of hotel engineering/maintenance experience, preferably in a Chief Engineer or Supervisor role.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of building systems and maintenance.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lead a small team and work independently.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade training preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Trade certification, Marriott experience, and bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and varied shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead and work alongside the maintenance team.
• Handle daily repairs, troubleshooting, and emergency maintenance.
• Oversee preventive maintenance for guest rooms and hotel facilities.
• Maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, mechanical, and building systems.
• Assign daily work, manage work orders, and inspect completed work.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire, health, safety, and building codes.
• Manage tools, equipment, supplies, and the Engineering budget.
• Train and support team members while maintaining hotel standards.
• Partner with other departments to ensure a safe and comfortable guest experience.
