Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related field.
  • Hands-on Hadoop/big-data development experience.
  • Proficiency with HDFS, Spark, Hive, MapReduce, YARN, Sqoop, Kafka, Flume, and HBase or similar NoSQL.
  • Strong programming skills in Java, Scala, or Python; strong SQL; experience with batch and real-time pipelines.
  • Linux/Unix shell scripting and familiarity with Git, CI/CD, Oozie, Airflow, or Control-M.

We are seeking an experienced Hadoop Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable big-data solutions supporting banking and financial services applications. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in the Hadoop ecosystem, data engineering, and distributed processing, along with an understanding of banking data, regulatory requirements, and financial products.

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Pittsburgh, PA/Dallas, TX is $110k - $120k/year & benefits (see below).

the Role

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines using Hadoop and related technologies.
  • Develop distributed data-processing solutions using Apache Spark, Hive, MapReduce, and HBase.
  • Ingest, transform, and process structured and unstructured data from multiple sources.
  • Build and optimize ETL/ELT workflows for large-scale data platforms.
  • Work with business analysts, data architects, and application teams to understand data requirements.
  • Implement data quality, validation, reconciliation, and monitoring processes.
  • Optimize Hadoop jobs, Spark applications, SQL queries, and cluster performance.
  • Develop reusable frameworks and components for data ingestion and processing.
  • Ensure data security, access control, encryption, and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and provide root-cause analysis.
  • Create technical documentation, data flow diagrams, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and production support activities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in Hadoop or big-data development.
  • Hands‑on experience with Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), Apache Spark, Hive, MapReduce, YARN, Sqoop, Kafka, Flume, or similar ingestion tools and HBase or another NoSQL database
  • Strong programming skills in Java, Scala, or Python.
  • Excellent SQL skills and experience with relational databases.
  • Experience developing batch and/or real‑time data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix shell scripting.
  • Experience with workflow and scheduling tools such as Apache Oozie, Airflow, or Control‑M.
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and Agile development practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working in banking, financial services, fintech, or insurance.
  • Experience with cloud big-data platforms such as AWS EMR, Azure HDInsight/Databricks, or Google Dataproc.
  • Knowledge of Snowflake, Delta Lake, Kafka, Kubernetes, or Terraform.
  • Experience with data catalog and governance tools.
  • Familiarity with real‑time streaming and event‑driven architectures.
  • Relevant certifications in Hadoop, Spark, AWS, Azure, or Databricks.
