Job description

Gym Manager - The Front SLC

Lead the team behind one of Utah's most loved climbing communities. If you're a people-first leader who thrives on running a sharp operation and building a team that genuinely enjoys showing up, this is your next move.

About The Front

The Front Climbing Club has been part of Utah's climbing story since the 1980s, when we opened the state's first indoor climbing gym. Today we're much more than walls and holds: we're a community built around climbing, fitness, art, and culture. We invest in our people, champion a growth mindset, and give our team real ownership in shaping the experience our members love.

About the Role

As Gym Manager at The Front SLC, you'll set the standard for how our gym runs and how our members feel when they walk through the door. You'll lead assistant managers and shift leads, partner with managers across our other locations, and help turn big-picture goals into a smooth, well-run day on the floor.

Expect a balanced mix: about half your time on the gym floor leading in person, and half on planning, people management, and operations.

Location: Salt Lake City, UT (The Front SLC) Pay: $65,000–$75,000 per year Schedule: Full-time, salaried; includes nights and weekends Reports to: General Manager

What You'll Do
  • Lead by example with outstanding service, a strong work ethic, and a clear commitment to our culture.
  • Run daily front desk operations across service, sales, and cleanliness, and keep the team sharp on current offerings, promotions, programs, events, and retail.
  • Build and grow the team alongside senior leadership, from staffing plans and hiring to onboarding, training, and development.
  • Handle member feedback with care, resolving concerns quickly, de-escalating tough moments, and finding solutions that leave people impressed.
  • Shape strategy by helping align our service and sales approach with company goals and member satisfaction.
  • Spot and drive improvements in service, operations, and the facility, then help put them into action.
  • Plan and launch events, promotions, and operational changes, keeping communication clear across managers and staff.
  • Champion one or two key areas of the business, such as events, retail, Testpiece café, amenities, programs, risk management, or facilities, based on your strengths and interests.
  • Keep the gym safe and spotless by partnering with Facilities and Risk Management on maintenance, safety protocols, and high standards of care.
What You Bring

You might be a great fit if you have:

  • 5+ years of professional experience (work, college, or trade school can all count), including at least 4 years in customer service or hospitality.
  • 2+ years of experience managing people, with a track record of leading and motivating diverse teams.
  • A working understanding of indoor climbing risk management and instructional skills.
  • First Aid/CPR and Utah Alcohol certifications (required).
  • Strong planning, time management, and organizational skills, plus a genuine love for a good operational checklist.
  • Comfort with MS Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
  • Availability to work nights and weekends.
  • A friendly, compassionate, and professional presence, with sound judgment when members' needs are on the line.
  • A collaborative mindset and the belief that great member experiences are a company-wide effort.

Bonus points for: a bachelor's degree (equivalent experience absolutely counts), sales experience, and familiarity with Rock Gym Pro.

Perks & Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life, short-term disability, long-term disability, and accident coverage
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Paid time off
  • Free gym membership
  • Discounts on food and merchandise
  • Opportunities to grow your leadership into other areas of the business, from programs and events to café and facilities
