Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Environmental Scientist to lead impactful work across the Gulf region, including permitting strategy, environmental assessment, and preparation of applications for municipal, state, and federal approvals. You’ll support projects in natural gas pipelines, LNG, and energy-related developments, while engaging with agencies and stakeholders.

We value flexibility to travel up to 75% for fieldwork, and encourage mentorship and leadership of teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in environmental science, rangeland science, biological resources or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience leading delineations, preferably in the Gulf Region (TX, OK, LA, MS, AR).
• Local, state, and Federal compliance and environmental permitting experience is a plus.
• Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or other applicable professional environmental certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support projects and key client relationships— natural gas pipelines, LNG facilities, solar facilities, and other energy-related projects; residential and commercial development; mitigation/conservation banking, water resources infrastructure; and transportation.
• Lead teams that collect and report on tasks that include, wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat characterizations, land use mapping and vegetation cover classification, and other natural resource-focused surveys. Coordinate agency communications, oversee technical assessments, and guide project teams through successful execution.
• Assist with preparing work plans, assembling project teams, delegating tasks and ensuring compliance with scope and timely completion of tasks.
• Establishes and maintains quality assurance plans and safety plans for assigned projects.
• Provide mentorship to early career staff, with potential opportunities for direct supervision.
