Opportunity

Stantec is looking for a driven Environmental Scientist to lead impactful work across the Gulf region. The role provides permitting strategy, environmental assessment and application preparation, and technical support for projects that require municipal, provincial/state, and federal environmental approvals and licenses. The position may be located in or near any Stantec Texas office and may require travel for project and fieldwork up to 75% of the time, including extended stays in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead teams that collect and report on wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat characterizations, land use mapping and vegetation cover classification, and other natural resource-focused surveys. Coordinate agency communications, oversee technical assessments, and guide project teams through successful execution.
  • Assist with preparing work plans, assembling project teams, delegating tasks, and ensuring compliance with scope and timely completion of tasks.
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance plans and safety plans for assigned projects.
  • Provide mentorship to early‑career staff, with potential opportunities for direct supervision.
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Thorough understanding of technical environmental impact analysis methods and sound knowledge of NEPA requirements and related environmental regulations, including the Clean Water Act Sections 401, 402, and 404.
  • Solid knowledge of environmental compliance requirements for public and private infrastructure projects in transportation, renewable energy, and oil/gas/energy sectors.
  • Working knowledge of agencies including the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, state departments of natural resources and environmental protection, FERC, Federal Highway Administration, and Federal Aviation Administration.
  • Demonstrated skill and commitment to QA/QC practices.
  • Experience managing multiple projects with the ability to motivate self and others to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.
  • Strong collaborative problem‑solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates.
  • Leadership in striving to continuously improve technical performance.
  • Flexibility to travel as needed for project and fieldwork (up to 75%).
  • Requirement for post‑employment drug testing per client needs, where lawful.
  • Valid state driver’s license and good driving record.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in environmental science, rangeland science, biological resources, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience leading delineations, preferably in the Gulf region (TX, OK, LA, MS, AR).
  • Local, state, and federal compliance and environmental permitting experience is a plus.
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or other applicable environmental certification is a plus.
Typical Office Environment

Primarily computer work with prolonged sedentary periods. Field work involves uneven terrain, challenging environments, and potential exposure to inclement weather such as high heat, cold, and rain.
