Job summary

Purdue University Northwest's Dining Services is seeking a Part Time Cashier to serve as the front-line representative, processing customer transactions accurately and delivering a welcoming guest experience in a busy dining environment.

You will operate the POS system, handle cash and campus meal plan transactions, keep the checkout area tidy, and assist with stock and dining room upkeep while upholding HACCP standards and campus policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Prior customer service or cash handling experience is a plus.
• On-the-job training provided.
• Experience with Purdue University Northwest Dining Services is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate a point-of-sale (POS) system, accurately scanning items, processing payments (cash, credit, and campus meal plan cards), and handling cash drawers, including end-of-shift cash drawer reconciliation and reporting of discrepancies to the Dining Services Lead or manager on duty.
• Greet customers warmly, answer questions about menu items, and resolve concerns efficiently to minimize wait times during busy service periods, while promoting Dining meal plan options and communicating daily specials or promotional offerings.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the cashier station, condiment areas, and adjacent dining spaces
• Assist with stocking and rotating merchandise as directed.
• Assist in monitoring dining room cleanliness, including tables, chairs, and common areas, and communicate needs to the appropriate team member or manager on duty.
• Adhere to university food service safety standards (HACCP) and campus policies, including verifying student identification for meal plan usage, accurately tracking declining balance transactions, and reporting suspected misuse to a supervisor.
