Job Summary

Purdue University Northwest's Dining Services is seeking a PartTime Cashiers. The Cashier serves as the front-line representativeof Dining Services, processing customer transactions accurately andefficiently while delivering a welcoming guest experience. Keyresponsibilities include operating point-of-sale systems,processing meal plan and payment transactions, maintaining a cleanand organized checkout environment, and upholding university foodservice standards. This position plays an important role in thedaily rhythm of dining operations and the overall satisfaction ofstudents, faculty, and staff.

Work Hours: Approximately 19 hours/week

Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate a point-of-sale (POS) system, accurately scanningitems, processing payments (cash, credit, and campus meal plancards), and handling cash drawers, including end-of-shift cashdrawer reconciliation and reporting of discrepancies to the DiningServices Lead or manager on duty.
• Greet customers warmly, answer questions about menu items, andresolve concerns efficiently to minimize wait times during busyservice periods, while promoting Dining meal plan options andcommunicating daily specials or promotional offerings.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the cashierstation, condiment areas, and adjacent dining spaces
• Assist with stocking and rotating merchandise as directed.
• Assist in monitoring dining room cleanliness, including tables,chairs, and common areas, and communicate needs to the appropriateteam member or manager on duty.
• Adhere to university food service safety standards (HACCP) andcampus policies, including verifying student identification formeal plan usage, accurately tracking declining balancetransactions, and reporting suspected misuse to a supervisor.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

• Prior customer service or cash handling experience is aplus.
• On-the-job training provided.
• Experience with PNW Dining Services is preferred.

Core Competencies

• Ability to accurately handle cash, calculate change, andprocess electronic and meal plan transactions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be able to push, pull, lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs.frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally.
• Familiarity with food safety practices preferred.
