Job summary

BLACK BEAR DINER VALLEJO is seeking a professional server to greet guests warmly, take orders, and deliver exceptional dining service. You will coordinate with the kitchen for accurate orders, monitor guest satisfaction, and maintain a clean, organized dining area.

Must stay punctual, wear the uniform, and uphold brand standards. Responsibilities include taking orders, suggesting beverages and specials, handling payments, and ensuring guests leave satisfied.

Qualifications

• Be punctual to begin your work.
• Wear proper uniform (black slacks, Black Bear Diner shirt, suspenders and apron) and name badge at all times.
• Maintain a neat and clean appearance at all times.
• Greet guests within two minutes of seating and introduce yourself by name.
• Offer beverages before taking food orders and describe beverages.
• Announce specials per meal period after beverages.
• Take food orders and repeat back to guests to avoid mistakes; communicate any unavailable items.
• Enter orders into the POS with necessary modifications.
• Coordinate with kitchen for special requests or modifications.
• Check back with guests for beverage refills and overall experience.
• Communicate any kitchen delays to guests; keep them informed.
• Maintain a cheerful and positive attitude; practice a 'clean as you go' policy.
• Keep working areas clean and organized; ensure all stations are tidy.
• Report equipment failures or shortages to management immediately.
• Take breaks on time; return promptly.
• Overtime may be required.
• Double-check guest checks before presenting and ensure accuracy.
• Voids or changes require managerial approval.
• Servers may not comp meals unless approved by management.
• Be a team player and own the restaurant responsibilities.
• Food runs to be performed by all servers as needed.
• Communicate station transitions to management to avoid confusion.
• All servers must have current Food Handlers Certification.
• Refill sugar caddies and restock sauces, condiments, salt & pepper shakers.
• Complete all side work before punching out.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests in a friendly, courteous manner and introduce yourself by name.
• Take and relay accurate orders, confirming special requests and substitutions.
• Serve beverages and monitor guest satisfaction, offering refills as needed.
• Coordinate with the kitchen and expeditor for timely order delivery.
• Keep guests informed about delays and ensure positive dining experience.
• Maintain cleanliness of dining areas and work stations throughout shift.
