Job summary

Griffin Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago seeks a part-time Guest Engagement Representative to deliver enthusiastic guest service, assist with ticketing and memberships, and help guide visitors through compelling exhibits for visitors of all ages. The role is on-site, requires Tuesday availability and one weekend day plus occasional evenings for events; it is union-represented (AFSCME Council 31).

The hourly rate is $18.00 with benefits starting day one.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1–3 years of customer-facing experience.
• Associates degree or higher is a plus.
• Must work weekends, holidays, and some evenings with a regular schedule.
• Enthusiasm for science and education; comfortable in large crowds.
• Strong attendance, timeliness, and guest readiness.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; works well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide enthusiastic, efficient customer service through greeting, ushering, and escorting guests.
• Promote exhibits and experiences; offer effective solutions to questions.
• Deliver wayfinding and other guest services throughout the visit.
• Assist with ticketing operations, parking, coat check, and guest amenities.
• Collaborate with team to ensure a safe, inclusive environment for guests.
• Welcome field trips and manage Group Center onboarding/offboarding.
• Process registrations and support school trips for documentation and reporting.
• Build relationships with members and guests to encourage repeat visits.
• Participate in meetings to discuss memberships and upsell experiences.
• Perform cashiering duties and process all ticketing transactions.
