Job summary

Valency is seeking a hands-on builder who sits between product, engineering, and go-to-market to create demos, integrations, and technical content that moves prospects to a POC.

You will develop MCP-first demos, write sample MCP servers, and produce documentation that a skeptical staff scientist would actually use, in a small startup with no GTM engineering function.

Qualifications

  • You write production-quality code (Python, TypeScript, or similar) and are comfortable building demos and integrations from scratch, quickly.
  • You've worked at the intersection of engineering and GTM — sales engineering, developer relations, technical marketing, or as an early technical hire at a startup.
  • You can talk fluently with a research engineer at a national lab and with an enterprise buyer — and translate between the two.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain technical demos, sample integrations, and proof-of-concept environments that showcase Bond's MCP-first capabilities to prospects and partners
  • Build and develop landing pages and measure success
  • Own technical content — integration guides, code samples, and tutorials — that shortens time-to-first-value for new users and evaluators
  • Support sales and solutions engineering on technical evaluations, POCs, and RFPs with national labs and enterprise research teams
  • Build lightweight internal tooling to instrument and report on GTM metrics — activation, usage, pipeline funnel
  • Partner with product and engineering to translate the roadmap into GTM-ready technical narratives and enablement materials
  • Represent Valency in developer and research-computing communities (GitHub, Discord, technical forums) — answering questions, contributing examples, and feeding field insight back to product
  • Prototype and test PLG mechanics — self-serve onboarding flows, in-product activation nudges — for Bond and Hub

Job description

About Valency

Valency Systems is a small, dynamic team of engineers, scientists, and researchers building the global hub for the agentic research era.

We're based in Berkeley, California, and we're building something that matters. If you care about open science, advancing research at the speed of thought, and using AI to accelerate discovery, we'd love to talk.

Our team is hybrid. We come together in person at least 3 days a week, with the option for 2 days of remote work.

The Role

Valency Bond is an MCP-first platform — our buyers are researchers, research computing teams, and technical evaluators at national labs and enterprise R&D orgs who will not take our word for it. They want to see it work, poke at the API, and run it against their own data before they trust it.

You are the person who makes that possible. You sit between product, engineering, and go-to-market — building the demos, integrations, and technical content that turn "interesting" into "let\'s do a POC." You are not writing marketing copy; you are writing code, sample MCP servers, and documentation that a skeptical staff scientist would actually use.

This is a builder role at a small startup with no existing GTM engineering function. You will define what "good" looks like as much as you execute it.

What You\'ll Do
  • Build and maintain technical demos, sample integrations, and proof-of-concept environments that showcase Bond's MCP-first capabilities to prospects and partners

Who You Are
  • You write production-quality code (Python, TypeScript, or similar) and are comfortable building demos and integrations from scratch, quickly

  • You've worked at the intersection of engineering and GTM — sales engineering, developer relations, technical marketing, or as an early technical hire at a startup

  • You can talk fluently with a research engineer at a national lab and with an enterprise buyer — and translate between the two

  • You are comfortable with ambiguity. There is no existing playbook for this role here yet

Helpful but not required
  • Familiarity with Attio

  • You understand API-first, developer-facing products

  • exposure to MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar agentic/AI tooling is a strong plus

  • Familiarity with academic publishing or research infrastructure

  • Hands-on experience building or consuming MCP servers

  • A scientific or research background

  • Prior startup experience in a build-it-from-scratch environment

Show Us Your Work
  • Code you've written for demos, integrations, or developer tooling (GitHub links welcome)

  • Technical content you've created — docs, tutorials, or sample apps that helped users reach value faster

  • Examples of working directly with sales or customers on technical evaluations
