Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Medical Assistant to join Northern Medical Associates in Franklin Park. Hours are Monday through Friday, daylight hours, with no evenings, weekends, or holidays.

The position involves back office and front office duties, and prior Medical Assistant experience is preferred. Training through the Medical Assistant Career Ladder will determine the title and salary based on experience and education.

Qualifications

• Previous Medical Assistant experience preferred.
• Ability to perform back office and front office duties.
• Familiarity with HIPAA and patient privacy requirements.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient records in compliance with HIPAA and regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, notes, referrals; schedule appointments; verify insurance and demographics.
• Prepare and manage charts; maintain infection control; manage inventory of supplies.
• Check schedules and organize patient flow; accompany patients to rooms; assist with transfers, collecting specimens, and exam preparation.
• Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs; assist physicians with procedures; document into the chart.
• Comply with OSHA, CLIA, PA DoH requirements; maintain confidentiality; follow UPMC Health System policies.
• Under supervision of a physician, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.
