Job summary

JCC Association in New York City seeks an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance with nonprofit GAAP standards as the organization scales. This role partners with the CFAO, oversees the annual audit and Form 990, manages a small accounting team, and drives internal controls, budgeting, and the implementation of scalable financial systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or related field required.
• 7–10 years accounting experience with 2+ years in a supervisor/controller role.
• Strong nonprofit fund accounting, GAAP, and FASB knowledge.
• Experience with restricted/unrestricted fund accounting.
• Proficiency in Sage Intacct or similar software; advanced Excel skills.
• Proven track record building/improving financial systems and processes.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting: GL, AR/AP, cash management, reconciliations.
• Lead month-end/year-end close and improve speed/accuracy.
• Ensure proper coding/allocation of expenses across programs and grants.
• Maintain chart of accounts; evolve as programs grow.
• Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements under GAAP/FASB.
• Coordinate annual audit and Form 990 with external partners.
• Manage restricted fund reporting and donor/grantor stipulations.
• Provide budgeting support and variance analysis to leadership.
• Develop internal controls and safeguard assets; lead accounting staff.
