Job summary

The Jewish Community Center of Staten Island is seeking a Controller to lead the accounting and finance function. You will oversee general ledger, month-end close, grant and contract accounting, budgeting, and internal controls, ensuring GAAP and nonprofit standards compliance.

Reporting to the CFO, you’ll guide financial analysis and collaboration with program leadership to advance sustainability. Ideal candidates have at least five years in nonprofit accounting, advanced Excel skills, and

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of nonprofit accounting experience.
• Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables).
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Ability to lead and train accounting staff.
• Experience with grant contracts and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee general accounting functions and financial reporting.
• Coordinate close processes and prepare monthly reports and KPIs.
• Manage government, foundation, and private grants and contracts accounting.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for programs.
• Lead audits and implement internal controls improvements.
