Job summary

Olympia School District is seeking a Teacher - Special Education to support students with significant behavioral needs. You will implement district-approved curricula, adapt lessons to IEP goals, and document progress for stakeholders.

The role requires collaboration with parents, teachers, and community agencies, along with supervising instructional staff in a supportive, safe environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with high school age students with significant behavioral disability, autism and significant developmental delays.
• Knowledge of SPED categories, state curriculum framework, and education codes.
• Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and maintain records while meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Adapts lesson plans to implement IEP goals and meet student needs.
• Advises parents/guardians on student progress and home strategies.
• Assesses students’ social and academic development for placement and success.
• Collaborates with school personnel and community agencies to tailor programs.
• Directs instructional assistants and volunteers to support students.
• Instructs students with individualized needs to develop academic and daily living skills.
• Manages student behavior to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Prepares materials and reports to document progress.
• Reports incidents to ensure student safety and policy adherence.
