Job summary

Olympia School District is seeking a Teacher - Special Education to support students with significant behavioral needs through structured, team-based instruction. The role emphasizes implementing IEP goals, progress documentation, and collaboration with families and agencies.

Required are a Washington State SPED teaching credential and fingerprint clearance. The position is 0.2 FTE/one year only, with benefits via the CBA, and involves a Monday–Friday schedule in an on-site setting.

Qualifications

• Experience with high school age students with significant behavioral disability, autism and developmental delays.
• Ability to motivate students and communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds.
• Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, maintain records, and meet scheduling deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Adapt lessons to meet IEP goals and student needs.
• Advise parents/guardians on student progress and reinforce home goals.
• Assess students' social and academic needs to evaluate progress and placement.
• Collaborate with school personnel and community agencies to optimize outcomes.
• Direct instructional assistants, volunteers, and student aides.
• Instruct students with individualized special needs through a defined course of study.
• Manage student behavior to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Prepare teaching materials and progress reports.
• Report incidents per district policies.
• Administer medications/health care requirements as needed.
• Participate in meetings for credentialing and program updates.
