Job summary

Nelnet, through its NextGen portfolio, is seeking an experienced Group Product Manager to lead a small PM team and own one or more NextGen solutions end-to-end, from discovery to shipping. You will align across engineering, design, sales, implementation, and client support to deliver value for higher education institutions, administrators, and students.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of product management experience with a strong track record of shipping products yourself.
• 1+ years mentoring or directly managing other Product Managers.
• Experience partnering with go-to-market teams to launch complex SaaS or platform products.
• Proven ability to ship AI-enabled or data-driven software products with measurable business impact.

Responsibilities

• Hands-On Product Ownership: own one or more NextGen solutions end to end—running discovery, writing requirements, prioritizing, and partnering with engineering and design.
• Stay close to the details: analyze data, prototype ideas, review designs, and validate with users like financial aid and campus administrators.
• Set the bar for product craft by modeling discovery, writing, and decision-making for PMs you lead.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a small team of Product Managers and recruit talent as needed.
• Foster a high-agency, outcome-oriented culture with lightweight product practices.
• Balance hands-on coaching with autonomy and intervene when needed.
• Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap across the NextGen portfolio.
• Identify opportunities to connect the portfolio through shared workflows and data.
• Explore practical AI applications to reduce manual work for campus staff.
• Monitor higher education landscape and feed insights back into the roadmap.
• Partner with sales, marketing, implementation, and client support for launches.
• Collaborate with engineering on architecture and delivery cadence.
• Define success metrics and drive accountability to outcomes.
• Ensure releases meet SOC, FERPA, accessibility, and regulatory requirements.
