Group Leader – IslandQuest Day Camp

Location: Henry Kaufman Campgrounds | Classification: 6A – Group Leader | Salary Range: $3,200–$4,200 (starting $3,200) | Term: June29–August20 (Mon‑Fri, 8:30a.m.–4p.m.) | Availability: Phone until 6:30p.m.

Overview

Commonpoint’s IslandQuest Day Camp provides a high‑quality camp experience for children. The Group Leader oversees a camper group, guiding activity planning, supervision, and daily operations.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver nurturing, educational camp experiences that foster social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.
  • Lead, supervise, and organize campers and staff during the camp day, ensuring proper supervision, safety standards, and camper‑to‑staff ratios.
  • Implement positive youth development principles, promoting communication, respect, inclusion, and engagement.
  • Prepare for and attend pre‑camp orientations on April29, May29‑30, June7, 14, and 28.
  • Maintain First Aid RTE and CPR certificates up to date before camp starts.
  • Make “Welcome Parent” phone calls prior to camp start.
  • Oversee camper health needs, including daily care, required documentation, medication distribution, and reporting concerns.
  • Follow and enforce all policies and guidelines outlined in the Island Quest Day Camp manual.
  • Report safety or incident concerns promptly and follow all safety protocols.
  • Support and lead camp programs, adapting activities to camper interests and abilities.
  • Model positive behavior, maintain equipment and facility standards, and support staff needs, including ensuring required breaks.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
  • Strong understanding of youth development and ability to work with all age groups.
  • Bilingual language proficiency is an asset.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive base salary within $3,200–$4,200, aligned with internal and external equity, with potential growth based on performance. Salary awarded per established salary bands.

Working Conditions
  • Outdoor work; walking, climbing, standing, stooping, or swimming required.
  • Exposure to loud noise, extreme heat, and other environmental conditions.
  • Late nights or overnights may be required depending on group placement.
  • Bus transportation available from local hubs.
