Quest Director

Location: Henry Kaufman Campgrounds. Classification: 10D – Program Manager. Salary Range: $4,500–$5,500. Starting Salary: $4,500.

About the Role

Situated within IslandQuest Day Camp, the Quest Director leads the planning and implementation of a nurturing, educational environment to foster optimal social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of each camper.

The role reports directly to the Program Director, Assistant Program Director, Associate Camp Director, and Camp Director.

Responsibilities
  • Support agency initiatives by carrying out assigned duties accurately and efficiently, following established processes and contributing to data collection and documentation as required.
  • Use agency resources responsibly by following procedures, safeguarding equipment and materials, and supporting cost‑effective operations.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, coworkers, and cross‑department teams to ensure clear communication, timely task completion, and a positive, respectful work environment.
  • Follow all safety protocols, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment and promptly report concerns or incidents.
  • Attend all weekly program meetings starting in March and pre‑camp orientations on May 29‑30, June 7, 14, and 28.
  • Work all days Monday‑Friday, 8:00a.m.–4:30p.m., June29 to August21, and be reachable by phone until 6:30p.m.
  • Maintain First Aid RTE and CPR Pro certification up to date before the start of camp.
  • Develop and implement Quest curriculum and lesson plans in collaboration with specialist staff, ensuring programs meet camp goals and camper abilities.
  • Coordinate schedules, manage inventory and supplies, and oversee the daily organization of the Quest area.
  • Supervise and support program specialists through ongoing feedback, communication, and mid‑ and end‑of‑summer evaluations.
  • Ensure all activities follow camp safety and educational guidelines, including equipment and facility checks.
  • Monitor program success, evaluate camper growth and skill development, and adjust activities as needed.
  • Collaborate with camp leadership and staff to support theme days, special events, scheduling coverage, and overall camp operations.
Qualifications & Key Attributes
  • Minimum: 2–3 years of supervisory experience; demonstrated knowledge and skill in the program area; ability to communicate positively with youth and adults; understanding of youth development needs.
  • Preferred: Previous experience in a Commonpoint role; bilingual; Master’s degree in Education or related field; current instructional certification in the program area (preferred).
  • Key attributes: Ability to work effectively with all age levels; strong leadership skills to guide staff; flexible and adaptable to changing needs; strengths‑based approach in all interactions; collaborative and committed to creating a safe, supportive camp environment.

Commonpoint offers competitive base salaries benchmarked against comparable nonprofit organizations in the New York metropolitan area, based on salary bands and position scope, qualifications, and organizational impact. New hires typically start near the beginning of the salary range with potential growth based on performance, professional development, and tenure.

Working Conditions & Job Details

Work outdoors; walking, climbing, standing, stooping, or swimming are required. Exposure to loud noise or extreme heat may occur. Late nights or overnight stays may be required depending on group placement. Bus transportation from local hubs is offered.

Job type: Non‑union, in‑person. Working schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00a.m.–4:30p.m., June29 to August21, available by phone until 6:30p.m.
