Job summary

The YMCA of Memphis & The Mid-South is seeking a part-time after-school program assistant in Memphis, TN to help oversee activities for groups of 15–20 children. You will set up and break down spaces, supervise transitions, and ensure safety and program quality in line with YMCA guidelines.

Candidates should be passionate about youth development, possess strong communication skills, and maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Must be passionate and enthusiastic about the YMCA's mission.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for diverse groups.
• Professional image with conflict resolution abilities and good judgment.
• Highly organized, able to handle multiple tasks under pressure.
• Maintain confidentiality of information.
• Complete all required background checks and fingerprint clearances.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Model YMCA values and lead groups of 15–20 children.
• Set up and take down program space, keeping areas organized.
• Direct activities inside/outside and during transitions.
• Follow safety standards and risk-management policies.
• Help plan and implement a quality curriculum per YMCA guidelines.
• Attend staff meetings and in-service training; monitor supplies.
• Assist in ensuring licensing standards at School Age site.
• Develop positive relationships with YMCA staff and school personnel.
• Support site director and follow citywide policies and procedures.
