Job summary

The University of Toledo seeks a Group Fitness Instructor to lead safe, engaging classes at the Office of Recreational Services. You will tailor workouts, provide modifications, and ensure participant safety while representing the university with exceptional guest service.

Responsibilities include preparing class choreography, arriving early, coordinating with staff, training teammates, and participating in required trainings.

Qualifications

  • Must hold current American Red Cross Professional Rescuer level or BLS CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
  • Passion for fitness, mature attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Current nationally-accredited primary group fitness certification or format-specific certification (e.g. Zumba, Spinning, Yoga, Pilates, Turbokick, WERQ, Cize, etc.)

  • Represent the Office of Recreational Services with quality guest experience to all patrons.
  • Enforce building and program policies and procedures for Fitness and Wellness areas.
  • Respond to emergencies according to the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Prepare class choreography before your shift and greet participants 15 minutes early.
  • Purchase continuing education credits to maintain certification and stay current.
  • Communicate with supervisor via phone, email, text, or in person.
  • Coordinate with RocketEX staff to secure substitutes for shifts.
  • Train and mentor new employees; participate in trainings and department meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Office of Recreational Services.

Job Description:
  • Safely instruct an effective, creative group fitness class for diverse populations. Ensure client safety at all times, providing modifications for all fitness levels and abilities.
  • Represent the Office of Recreational Services via quality guest experience to all patrons in class and to all Office of Recreational Services guests.
  • Enforce all building and program policies and procedures as it pertains to the Fitness and Wellness areas.
  • Respond to emergencies in strict accordance to the Office of Recreational Services Emergency Action Plan.
  • Prepare fitness class program/choreography before your class shift. Arrive at least 15 minutes early to prepare the studio space for your class and to greet participants.
  • Purchase choreography/continuing education credits to maintain certification.
  • Check email daily and communicate effectively with supervisor through phone, email, text, or in person.
  • Contact RocketEX staff to acquire substitute for any shifts conflicting with personal schedule.
  • Train (team teach) and mentor new employees.
  • Attend and participate in all trainings and meetings within employee group and department wide, including Fall Leadership and Training Week.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Office of Recreational Services.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Personnel information must meet The University of Toledo employment qualifications
  • Must have and maintain current American Red Cross Professional Rescuer lever or BLS CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
  • Must possess a passion for fitness, a mature attitude and willingness to learn
