Job summary

The University of Toledo seeks a Program Coordinator/Challenge Adventure to lead Lifeguard Instructor programs and oversee safety for aquatic and challenge activities. You will hire, train, and supervise lifeguards and instructors, conduct risk assessments, and drive program quality and compliance.

With a Bachelor degree in recreation or related field and 2–5 years in aquatic management, you will champion safety, policy development, and staff development within the Student Rec Center.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree required in related field.
  • 2–5 years in aquatic/pool management or relevant experience.
  • Outdoor/challenge experience and knowledge.
  • Knowledge of pool equipment and operations.
  • Excellent organizational and written/oral communication skills.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and/or WSI certification.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all functions and development of Lifeguard Instructor program.
  • Hire, train, mentor, evaluate, disciplining, and supervise all Lifeguards, water safety instructors and ARC instructors.
  • Provide risk assessments for the Aquatic Center.
  • Manage all aquatic and safety related programming as it relates to participation, revenue, and staffing.
  • Coordinate safety trainings and semester audits for the department.
  • Lead aquatic special event programs.
  • Assist with creating and developing policies for climb wall, high ropes course, and team building.
  • Hire, train, schedule, mentor, supervise, evaluate, and discipline challenge student employees.
  • Coordinate planning and oversight of challenge area programs and events.
  • Maintain challenge equipment.
  • Lead safety auditing process of department student employees and train staff.
  • Serve as chair of the Safety committee for the Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Description
  • Responsible for managing all functions and development of Lifeguard Instructor program
  • Responsible for hiring, training, mentoring, evaluating, disciplining, and supervising all Lifeguards, water safety instructors, American Red Cross Instructors
  • Responsible for providing risk assessments for Aquatic Center
  • Manage all formal and informal aquatic and safety related programming as it relates to participation, revenue, and staffing
  • Manage safety trainings, mock emergencies, and semester audits on behalf of the department
  • Responsible for aquatic special event programs
  • Assist with the creation, develop of policies and procedures, for the climb wall, high ropes course, and team building.
  • Hire, train, schedule, mentor, supervise, evaluate, and discipline all challenge student employees
  • Coordinate all planning and oversight of challenge area programs and events
  • Responsible for maintenance of challenge equipment
  • Responsible for leading the safety auditing process of all departmental student employees, conducting safety training of the departments professional staff
  • Serve as chair of the Safety committee for the Department

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Sports Administration or Related Field
  • Minimum of two to five (2-5) years’ experience in Aquatic/Pool Management, or Relevant Experience
  • Outdoor/Challenge related experience and knowledge
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Pool equipment and operations
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and/or WSI Certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master degree in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Sports Administration or Related Field
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer and/or Water Safety Instructor Trainer Certification
  • Certified Pool Operator
