Job summary

The University of Toledo is seeking a Group Fitness Instructor for the Student Rec Center to deliver safe, creative group fitness classes for diverse populations. You will modify for all fitness levels and ensure client safety while representing Recreational Services with a high-quality guest experience.

Responsibilities include class preparation, early arrival, maintaining certifications, mentoring new staff, and participating in trainings and meetings.

Qualifications

  • Must have current American Red Cross Professional Rescuer level or BLS CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
  • Must possess a passion for fitness, a mature attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Must work well independently and motivate others to achieve fitness goals.
  • Demonstrated skill in quality guest service, communication and organizational/analytical skills.

  • Train and mentor new employees; coordinate substitute for shifts.
  • Attend trainings and department-wide meetings; participate in Fall Leadership and Training Week.

Job Description:

  • Safely instruct an effective, creative group fitness class fordiverse populations. Ensure client safety at all times, providingmodifications for all fitness levels and abilities.
  • Represent the Office of Recreational Services via quality guestexperience to all patrons in class and to all Office ofRecreational Services guests.
  • Enforce all building and program policies and procedures as itpertains to the Fitness and Wellness areas.
  • Respond to emergencies in strict accordance to the Office ofRecreational Services Emergency Action Plan.
  • Prepare fitness class program/choreography before your classshift. Arrive at least 15 minutes early to prepare the studio spacefor your class and to greet participants.
  • Purchase choreography/continuing education credits to maintaincertification.
  • Check email daily and communicate effectively with supervisorthrough phone, email, text, or in person.
  • Contact RocketEX staff to acquire substitute for any shiftsconflicting with personal schedule.
  • Train (team teach) and mentor new employees.
  • Attend and participate in all trainings and meetings withinemployee group and department wide, including Fall Leadership andTraining Week.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Office of RecreationalServices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Personnel information must meet The University of Toledoemployment qualifications
  • Must have and maintain current American Red Cross ProfessionalRescuer lever or BLS CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
  • Must possess a passion for fitness, a mature attitude andwillingness to learn
  • Must possess current nationally-accredited primary group fitnesscertification or format specific certification (i.e. Zumba,Spinning, Yoga, Pilates, Turbokick, WERQ, Cize, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Applicants must be motivated to help others to achieve theirfitness goals
  • Demonstrated skill in quality guest service, communication andorganizational and analytical skills
