Job summary

YMCA of Greater Brandywine in West Chester, PA is seeking a part-time Group Exercise Instructor to lead classes at Oscar Lasko YMCA. This role requires energetic, safety‑mocused instruction and interaction with participants.

You will greet attendees, track attendance with Upace, ensure classes run on time, and stay current on certifications. Perks include free YMCA membership, medical/dental/vision insurance, paid holidays, and professional development.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• At least 1 year of participation in group exercise class(es) required.
• Current Group Exercise certificate or specialty certificate from a reputable organization.
• Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Conduct group exercise classes in a safe, enthusiastic manner.
• Be a positive YMCA role model with an energetic attitude.
• Ensure all scheduled classes start and end on time, with substitutions when needed.
• Greet participants and learn their names; take class attendance.
• Familiarize yourself with Upace Group Ex technology for tracking and communication.
• Respond promptly to YMCA email and communicate with participants.
• Identify participants' limitations and adapt classes accordingly.
• Safely use all equipment and promote a healthy lifestyle.
• Attend advanced training workshops and year-round events.
• Comply with all YMCA policies and SOPs; perform other duties as assigned.

Instruct group exercise classes according to the guidelines set forth by the YMCA of the USA and the Director of Group Exercise.

What You'll Do

Conduct group exercise classes and provide assistance in a safe, enthusiastic, thorough, courteous and professional manner.

• Be a positive YMCA role model with an enthusiastic attitude
• All scheduled classes will be held, and sub coverage secured
• Classes will start and end on time
• Greet participants and learn their names
• Take class attendance
• Familiarize yourself with our Upace Group Ex technology which includes but is not limited to sub tracking system, class contact feature, class cancellation
• Check and respond in a timely fashion to your YMCA email
• Identify your participants' limitations and adapt your classes and/or provide modifications accordingly
• Properly and safely utilize all equipment associated with your class
• Promote a healthy lifestyle
• Attend advanced training workshops that are offered throughout the year by the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (or another co‑op member YMCA)
• Participate in special events and open houses throughout the year
• Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
