Job summary

Matrix New World Engineering, part of True Environmental, is seeking a Groundwater Modeler / Hydrogeologist in the Phoenix area. The role offers full-time employment with a hybrid work option (Phoenix office or remote) and provides company benefits.

You will support groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling, CSM development, and regulatory permitting activities across Arizona. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s in geology or hydrology (master’s preferred) and 3+ years of groundwater

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrology, Environmental Science, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree or 6 years with a Bachelor’s in groundwater modeling/hydrogeology/water resources/environmental consulting.
• Proficiency with MODFLOW, MODPATH and MT3D; familiarity with Groundwater Vistas.
• Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and post-processing tools such as Fortran, Python, Grapher, Surfer.
• Experience with groundwater modeling in Arizona/arid southwestern US.
• Strong writing and communication skills for technical reports and deliverables.
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Build, calibrate, and apply numerical groundwater models under senior staff guidance.
• Perform sensitivity, uncertainty, and predictive analyses for water resources projects.
• Compile and manage subsurface datasets to support CSM development.
• Assist with ADEQ permitting programs and AZPDES permit applications.
• Support AWS and aquifer analysis for water supply projects.
• Contribute to MAR/ASR site characterization and groundwater mounding analyses.
• Draft technical reports, memos, figures, and appendices for deliverables.
• Assist Project Managers with cost estimation, proposals, and task management.
