Job summary

Xylem Tree Experts in Wilson, NC seeks a dependable Groundsperson to support crews by performing ground-based vegetation clearing, brush and tree cutting, and site clean-up under direction.

Responsibilities include operating hand tools and gas-powered saws, loading debris, driving or assisting with trucks, maintaining equipment, and staying compliant with safety rules; previous utility vegetation experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or education equivalent preferred.
• Must possess physical strength and balance for heavy limbs and uneven terrain.
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather.
• Must be able to hear verbal instructions from a distance.
• Must obtain and maintain first-aid certification and CPR.
• Must wear required PPE and safety gear.
• Must have and maintain a Driver's License if driving.
• Must be able to communicate with others and follow directions.
• Must have endurance for an 8–10 hour day.
• Must be able to operate tools and equipment.
• Must travel out of town for storm restoration work when needed.

Responsibilities

• Work from ground level to clear brush and trees as directed.
• Clear undergrowth from right-of-way using handsaws, pole saws, pruners, and chainsaws.
• Load/unload trucks with logs, brush and debris; feed brush into chipper.
• Set up/break down road signs and flag traffic for safety.
• Drive truck or operate other equipment as assigned.
• Perform routine maintenance on trucks and equipment; report major repairs.
• Maintain clean, organized work area and communicate with crew.
• Perform storm-work duties as needed.
