Job summary

A groundkeeping professional at Long Island University grounds will be responsible for maintaining the campus exterior, ensuring safe and aesthetically pleasing outdoor spaces for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

The role requires 1st/2nd shift full-time commitment with focus on lawn care, plant health, and event setup across university grounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Prior experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or facilities maintenance is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of horticulture and plant care.
• Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment safely.
• Valid driver’s license (may be required).

Responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds, and landscaped areas.
• Perform mowing, edging, trimming, and pruning.
• Plant, water, fertilize, and care for greenery and seasonal plants.
• Remove leaves, debris, litter, and snow from walkways and grounds.
• Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.).
• Assist with irrigation system maintenance and repairs.
• Apply pesticides and fertilizers in accordance with safety regulations.
• Maintain outdoor facilities including sidewalks, parking areas, and athletic fields.
• Support campus events by setting up and breaking down outdoor spaces.
• Identify and report hazards, damages, or maintenance needs.

Position Summary
