Job summary

Bates College is seeking a Grounds & Maintenance Worker to maintain the grounds across college properties. Responsibilities include operating all grounds equipment, completing work orders, and ensuring safety procedures are followed.

  • Work weekends, holidays, and non-traditional schedules for campus events and snow removal.
  • Support Convocation, Commencement, Reunion, athletic events, and snow removal.

Grounds & Maintenance Worker
Position Purpose

The Grounds & Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining the grounds of all College owned properties.

Job Duties
  • Operate all grounds maintenance related equipment.
  • Perform all grounds maintenance related tasks.
  • Perform all tasks in accordance with recognized National andCollege safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete all assigned work orders in a timely manner.
  • Continually strive for work performance and shop procedureefficiencies.
  • Perform routine emergency response "on call" duty when necessary.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional schedules to support campus emergencies, snowremoval and major campus events.
  • Mandatory work includes but is not limited to the weekends of Convocation, Commencement and Reunion, athletic events and snowremoval.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have valid Maine driver’s license.
Experience
  • 2 years of experience.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion, and serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse community.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to logically trouble‑shoot equipment problems.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in the conduct of the job.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with supervisors, co‑workers and outside contacts.

Hiring Range

The hiring range for this position is $19.64 to $20.86. Placement within the range depends on experience and other factors.
