Job summary

Job description

Overview

Categories: Facilities: Grounds & Maintenance. The Grounds & Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining the grounds of all College owned properties.

Responsibilities
  • Operate all grounds maintenance related equipment.
  • Perform all grounds maintenance related tasks.
  • Perform all tasks in accordance with recognized National and College safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete all assigned work orders in a timely manner.
  • Continually strive for work performance and shop procedure efficiencies.
  • Perform routine emergency response “on call” duty when necessary.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional schedules to support campus emergencies, snow removal and major campus events.
  • Mandatory work includes but is not limited to the weekends of Convocation, Commencement and Reunion, athletic events and snow removal.
Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have valid Maine driver’s license.

Experience

  • 2 years of experience.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Commitment to equity and inclusion, and serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse community.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to logically trouble-shoot equipment problems.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in the conduct of the job.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and outside contacts.
Compensation and Benefits

Bates College offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits (health, dental, 9% retirement contribution with potential for an additional 3% match, 10 days of vacation*, 13 paid holidays, free parking, access to library and athletic facilities & more), and a supportive, collegial environment in a drug- and smoke-free workplace. The hiring range for this position is $19.64 to $20.86. Placement within the range depends on experience and other factors.
