Job summary

State of North Carolina - Department of Administration in Raleigh, NC, seeks a Grounds Supervisor I (S) to plan and manage grounds maintenance. You will prepare plantings, install landscape features, perform routine maintenance, diagnose plant health issues, and supervise staff as needed, including inmate workers.

The role requires using landscape equipment and applying chemicals safely. Minimum: high school diploma or GED and three years of progressive grounds upkeep experience.

Qualifications

• Considerable knowledge of horticultural practices and techniques applicable to the layout and upkeep of formal gardens and grounds.
• Ability to adjust and make minor mechanical repairs to equipment such as tractors, mowers, disks, and rakes.
• Strong attention to detail and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage grounds maintenance work.
• Prepare for and plant shrubs, trees, flowers, and lawns.
• Install hardened landscape structures and maintain beds (pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilizing, spraying).
• Diagnose diseased plants and take remedial action.
• Assist in repair of landscape equipment and apply chemicals/water to plants and turf.
