Job summary

Onslow County Schools seeks a Grounds Keeper I to maintain school grounds in Jacksonville, NC. You will cut lawns, trim edges, prune shrubs and trees, and operate maintenance tractors under the direction of the Maintenance Director.

Applicants should have a High School Diploma and some plant care experience, hold or be able to obtain a North Carolina driver’s license, and be capable of lifting heavy weights and handling tools safely. EOE

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent with some plant care experience.
Must hold NC driver’s license and be able to obtain CDL permit within 6 months.
Must obtain CDL license within 1 year.
Ability to operate and sharpen gardening tools.

Responsibilities

Cuts lawns.
Trims and edges.
Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth.
Removes damaged leaves, branches, and twigs.
Rakes and composts or disposes of leaves.
Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.
Sprays lawns, plants, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides using hand or automatic sprayers.
Performs ground maintenance duties using tractors equipped with attachments, such as mowers, lime or fertilizer spreaders, lawn rollers, and operates heavy equipment.
Performs other duties as specified by the Maintenance Director or Maintenance Supervisor.
