Job summary

State of South Dakota in Pierre is seeking a grounds keeper to maintain lawns, trees, flowers, shrubs, parking lots, and sidewalks across the Capitol Complex. You will operate landscaping machinery and hand tools, and assist with office moves when required.

The role requires teamwork or independent work with clear instructions, a valid driver's license, and flexibility to work outside normal hours in inclement weather.

Qualifications

• Prior medium and large equipment operation would be beneficial.
• Knowledge of gardening and grounds maintenance practices.
• Provide good customer service and tact when interacting with other state agencies, co-workers, and public.
• Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather; follow instructions; perform heavy lifting (50+ lbs.); operate motorized vehicles, hand and power tools.

The Bureau of Human Resources and Administration is seeking to fill a grounds keeper vacancy. Primary duties include maintaining lawns, trees, flowers, shrubs, parking lots, and sidewalks using hand and power tools, landscaping machinery, and related equipment to ensure the Capitol Complex is properly cared for and maintained. Successful incumbents must have the ability to work as part of a team or individually with general instructions. Additional duties include lifting furniture and completing office moves when required.

Must have a valid driver's license. Work hours are generally 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, incumbents must be able to work outside the normal schedule as needed. Ability to work in inclement weather when conditions require.
