Job summary

The State of South Dakota's Bureau of Human Resources and Administration in Pierre is seeking a full-time Grounds Keeper to maintain Capitol Complex grounds, parking areas, and sidewalks. This role requires operating lawn equipment and performing physical labor in various weather conditions.

Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with possible schedule adjustments. A valid driver’s license is required, and veterans’ preference applies. Background check may be required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of gardening and grounds maintenance practices.
• Ability to provide good customer service and tact when interacting with other state agencies, co-workers, and public.
• Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather; follow instructions; perform heavy lifting (50+ lbs.) and physical labor.
• Operate motorized vehicles, hand and power tools, and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, trees, flowers, shrubs, parking lots and sidewalks using hand and power tools and landscaping machinery.
• Work as part of a team or independently with general instructions.
• Assist with lifting furniture and completing office moves when required.
