Job summary

Orange County Utilities, Solid Waste Division in Orlando, FL, is seeking a Maintenance Person to perform unskilled manual labor across county properties and facilities. The role includes light to heavy physical tasks, on-the-job learning, and supervision-based assignments.

Typical duties involve grounds maintenance, concrete work assistance, trenching, road signage, sewer work, and loading heavy materials. Requires ability to follow instructions and possibly a valid CDL; work hours are 40 per

Qualifications

• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• May be required to possess and maintain the appropriate valid Commercial Driver's License for the type of equipment operated.
• Some knowledge of simple equipment.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of parks maintenance work not requiring specialized knowledge and skills.
• Sprays and trims foliage, cuts grass and weeds with hand tools and mowers, assists in planting trees and shrubbery, trims hedges and rakes leaves.
• Assists craftsman in a variety of unskilled tasks, mixes concrete with shovel, using prescribed amounts of sand, cement and water, removes walls and makes openings for repair and reconstruction work.
• Clears ditches with bush cutter, digs ditches with shovels, builds retaining walls, places sandbags, and performs other related tasks.
• Installs new and old road signs, erects barricades, and tacks reflectors onto barricades, assists in patching roads.
