Job summary

County of Volusia seeks a Senior Maintenance Worker for the Solid Waste Division. The role may operate at Port Orange's Tomoka Farms Road Landfill or DeLand's West Volusia Transfer Station in Florida, performing various manual labor tasks and learning solid waste, recycling screening, and household hazardous waste processes.

Required are a High School diploma or GED and 1 year as a Maintenance Worker or 2 years in construction/maintenance.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with 1 year as Maintenance Worker or 2 years in construction/maintenance.
• May need CDL Class B within time of hire.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, chainsaws, saws, power washers, and related yard maintenance gear.
• Perform light to heavy manual labor in construction and maintenance tasks.
• Provide customer service at the landfill or transfer station as needed.
• Sort and package materials at household hazardous waste sites.
• May serve as lead worker on a small crew and relocate to other county locations as needed.
