Job summary

City of Port Orange seeks a semi-skilled Grounds Maintenance Worker to care for city properties. Responsibilities include mowing, pruning, irrigation work, and basic repairs. The role supports park facilities and streets, with instruction and supervision as needed.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, plus 2 years of related maintenance experience. Valid Florida driver’s license and safety awareness are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years related experience in maintenance or similar work.
• Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations may be required.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

• Perform landscaping tasks such as mowing lawns and athletic fields, trimming and edging walks, flower beds, pruning shrubs and trees.
• Clean grounds and remove litter.
• Plant and water grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
• Repair structures such as fences, gates, walls, and walks.
• Paint fences and outbuildings.
• Pour new sidewalks and streets.
• Operate various motorized equipment (mowers, trucks, tractors, etc.).
• Irrigation maintenance and repairs (drainage, sprinklers).
• Repair and maintain streets or facilities like sports fields or playgrounds.
• Perform basic carpentry, electrical, roofing and plumbing repairs.
• Provide routine maintenance to small equipment.
• Attend work promptly and regularly.
• Perform related duties as required at various labor grades.
• This position is part of the City’s Emergency Management Team.
