Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a highly qualified Ground Test Engineering Manager to lead the Ground Test Engineering team at Edwards AFB, CA. The role focuses on program execution across flight test campaigns with built-in shift work, including extended hours and weekends.

The candidate will blend functional management with program leadership, guiding 10–15 engineers and coordinating with IPTs to ensure successful test campaigns and timely issue resolution.

Qualifications

• BS in STEM with 9+ years engineering experience, or MS with 7 years, or PhD in STEM field
• Experience in a systems test environment
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to interact with employees and management at all levels
• Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance or higher
• Willingness to work overtime, odd-hour shifts, and weekends to support test schedules

Responsibilities

• Provide people and discipline leadership to a team of 10-15 ground test engineers
• Lead personnel management including workforce planning, hiring, retention, engagement, redeployment and succession planning
• Ensure talent is staffed and trained to meet program delivery and employee growth
• Work with government counterparts at the CTF to understand staffing profiles
• Assign GTEs to shifts to balance flight operations and workforce development
• Provide first line engineering support for maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting and modifications to systems under test
• Coordinate daily and long-term tasking of engineers
• Lead team to discover and solve complex issues in a flight test environment
• Communicate test risks, issues, and opportunities to stakeholders
